In August, our generous son & daughter in law sent us tickets to come and visit them in Seattle.
Trips with them are always so jam-packed with things to see, do, and experience!
We made 3 of those stops right after they picked us up from the airport - they took us to a favorite BBQ place to eat - good ol' down home food, and fun vintage decor...
From there, we went to Snowqualmie Falls. A beautiful place to wander and enjoy nature.
Then they drove us to the little tourist town where Brad's art work is on display...
| Lots of things to see on the way... |
The next day, they took us out to Whidbey Island - the home of the World War II bunkers...
...And toured the lighthouse...
Then we took the ferry back to the mainland...
Where there was another lighthouse!
This one was so pretty, and I wanted to see inside, but sadly, it was closed :-(
We spent a little down time at Brad's house, and got to see some of his art work - he sent us pictures of these pieces that he did with a friend (he did the printed images, and she did the paper cutting.) The photos just don't do them justice - they are so amazing in real life!
The next day, we headed to Oregon, but we had a little car trouble on the way, and had to pull off in this shady spot in Tacoma. Bucky's is the place to get help if you need it - they were fast, and made us a priority. Two thumbs up! However, there were only 2 places to eat nearby, and we chose the wrong one - WORST LUNCH EVER!!!
After a couple of hours, we were on our way again...
We stopped at a little cheese store that was really fun - they had this vehicle that Wayland really wanted...
Besides the vehicle and a lot of fun snacks, they also had a petting zoo that was fun...
From there, we visited the Tillamook Air Museum - it is so far out in the boonies, I was sure we were lost - but it was pretty cool...
This giant plane was outside next to the place
It was HUGE inside! The placards said that it was used to reclaim planes that were downed during airstrikes, and bring them back for repairs...
(this is the inside of the plane)
The museum itself was inside an old hanger that was once used to build Zeppelin's
The kids, Brad & Lib - we also picked up our friend Drew on the way...
After the air museum, we went to the Tillamook cheese factory.
Brad was so excited - he said it was like visiting the nursery at the hospital, only better because it was CHEESE!
This boat was once used to deliver cheese...
Our last stop was the Japanese gardens in Seattle
Brad was disappointed that none of the flowers were in bloom, but it was still a beautiful, peaceful place...
I took about a zillion pictures of this bird, trying to get a good one - he just stood there forever. Made me wonder if he was chained to the rocks or something...
We love visiting Brad and Libby - they always have so many interesting things to show us - Thanks kids - we love you!
