Finally Fall

The rainy season has begun here - the grass grows so fast, we've been having to mow a couple of times a week.  The nights are finally starting to cool down, so sleeping with the windows open instead of the AC blasting is a pleasant (and much less expensive) option.

The only thing bad about it is its unpredictability.
We've been doing the sidewalk sale again at work - still trying to clear out last year's merchandise.

The other day, when I drove into the parking lot, the lightening and thunder were starting, so I clocked in, then went directly outside to see if they wanted to start moving things in - it started to sprinkle... and then to pour.  By the time we had everything inside, we were all drenched.  I had to finish my entire shift soaking wet.

The clothes eventually dried out, but my hair - with all the hair spray in it, dried hard - like one of those plastic molded Barbie wigs.  I couldn't wait until my lunch break to go home and brush it out.

The rest of the week has been "jerk Pat around" week.  I've been running from the front registers to the back to unload the trucks - back and fourth all night long - about the length of a football field.
Oy.

It makes it so hard to finish the tasks I've been given to do in my own department.
I've been scheduled until eleven every night this week - so that last hour, I'm running so fast to get caught up, that I can't unwind and sleep when I get home.

Hubby commented that I should be working graveyards - since those are the hours I'm keeping anyway.  I hate to say it, but maybe he's right - I enjoy work a lot more when there aren't so many people milling around messing up my clean areas.  Ha ha...

A couple of things to look forward to this month - one of my favorite authors' new book is out (just waiting for it to hit the shelf where I work.)
Josi Killpack's latest in the Sadie Hoffmiller saga.  These books are just so much fun to read.  I always finish in a day or two, then I have to wait another whole year for the next one.

In conjunction with the release of Tres Leches Cupcakes the author, Josi S. Kilpack, and the publisher, Shadow Mountain, are sponsoring a contest for free books. To enter, leave a comment in the comment section of this blog before September 16th, 2012. Winners will be announced and notified September 17th 2012.
For additional ways to enter, go to www.josiskilpack.com

Also, J.K. Rowling's long awaited novel will be out.  Haven't heard much about this one, so no idea what to expect - but it should be interesting...

Other than that, I've just become an unwilling hermit.
My car has a cracked radiator, and doesn't hold any antifreeze, which means I can't even drive five miles without it overheating - that ugly red light comes on, and it starts screaming at me to stop.
I am really hating that.  Jenny and I went for a little ride the other day, and I had such a strong desire to just keep going - and going - and going...   I get so tired of being cooped up - I rarely even leave the house anymore except to go to work.

I had several places I was supposed to be yesterday, but I had to disappoint everyone and just stay home...

On the upside, my fourth season of Dark Shadows came in the mail yesterday, so I spent the evening watching that - the show where my daughter would say "nothing happens."
It's aggravating to admit that she has a point, but last night the heroine got locked in a secret room by a madman.  I told myself I would just watch until someone rescued her - but two hours and 26 episodes later, she was still there.  I finally gave up and went to bed.  By then it was after two.

It made it so I was not all there at church - made some really stupid music mistakes.
Will I learn from that?  Probably not.

*Sigh.*

Still no news on Hubby's job - but he did go to the eye doctor the other day, and found that he has to have cataract surgery.  The doctor called the one eye legally blind.
It freaked me out a little, because he's driving to work every day.  I took him out to breakfast (which is the only time we ever have together anymore,)  and I insisted he let ME drive.  (He never lets me.)
...It was like an episode of the Bickerson's the whole way - he griped and complained until I almost turned around and took him back home!

Retirement should be interesting - if we ever get there.

That's life on the funny farm this week.  I'm done with the late late nights for the foreseeable future, so maybe I'll get caught up on the sleep...

Later.

Isn't it great when the next installment in a series you love is released? And then, as soon as you've read it, you're instantly back to waiting for the next book. Sigh.
